THE UNIQUENESS OF ENGLISH GARDENS; OUR BEST EXPORT?
Oct 13 @ 7:30 pm – 11:00 pm

Friday 13th October 2017

THE UNIQUENESS OF ENGLISH GARDENS; OUR BEST EXPORT?

7.30pm for a glass of wine and canapés.  Lecture at 8.00pm

£49.50 per person

An Illustrated Talk by Charles Quest-Ritson garden writer and journalist.  English gardens are famous. People come from all over the world to see them. Then they try to copy them in their own country. How does the English garden transport to the very different climate of New England, Australia, the Mediterranean or the tropics? What can we learn from English gardens abroad? Charles Quest-Ritson invites you to look at ‘English’ gardens in rather ‘un-English places’.

Charles is a popular and amusing speaker who has lectured in every continent except Antarctica (but he says he’s working on it).

He has written widely about Italian gardens, is an expert on roses and has a regular column in Country Life.

LA GLOIRE DE MON PĖRE     1990    Universal     106 mins    French with English subtitles

Yves Robert

Based on the childhood memories of Marcel Pagnol, author of Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, Yves Robert’s La Gloire de Mon Père is one of the most loved and successful French films ever made.
An adult Marcel nostalgically recalls idyllic holidays with his family to the hills of Provence. A love affair with the country began and during those halcyon days he finds a renewed respect for his school-teacher father as he adapts to life away from the city. This timeless classic stands as one of cinema’s greatest celebrations of childhood, filled with warmth, love and a poignant nostalgia for bygone days.
